Cryptomeria japonica as bonsai

Cryptomeria are of the Cupressacea family and are a monotypic genus where male and female strobili are borne on the same tree. The male strobili are orange to reddish and show in March and they form solitary round cones that mature within the first year. Sakura-Ten

After snow disrupting plans to visit Noelanders in January this year we held the Euro Tunnel booking and postponed it to a random date in May. Upon receipt of a reminder of this the week we searched around for any events in Europe and happened across the Sakura-Ten show

Wessex Bonsai Show

It was a very quiet show without the familiar voice of Manuel which is usually heard throughout the day discussing and explaining the art of bonsai to anyone who is interested. It was a very good show and had lots of excellent trees on display in the exhibition and by the local clubs.
