After a 6.30 start it was nice to get to be a passenger princess for the second half of the 3 hour trip to The Newark Showground with Neve driving the second leg. From the size of the queue, it was clear that given the sad demise of the Doncaster Show that Newark Bonsai-Fest was ready to take up the mantle.

Entering the hall we were  greeted by plenty of traders and private sellers, ready to relieve us of our  pocket money,  A wide range of professionals, potters, nurseries, and YouTube content creators, all keen to talk trees and all things bonsai while trying to part us from our cash as we tried to sniff out some beauties and some bargains.

Kevin Wilson and Graham Potter gave a cracking live demonstration on a stunning Pine with some Q & A, which gave us an opportunity to have a rest and we got some good tips for getting the best for differing pine species in the ever wonderful UK climate.

The quality of trees on display was top notch with beautiful winter images, some of which have featured at the Swindon Shows. There was even a touch of spring colour, a debut for what’s to come as the seasons change.

Someone was keeping a keen eye on both the sales tables and the show trees as well as the wallets!  (Yes I know I owe you £20, but come on we didn’t even need to fold the seats)

Thanks for the report………I am sure that we are all keen to see Tim’s purchases at the next meeting and to hear his thoughts on the new show. It’s a shame that there aren’t more large event centres around the UK, but then they are usually expensive.
