Fond farewell
This month we say a fond farewell to Zeljko and his wife Ivana who are heading back home to Serbia now that Zeljko has passed his MA at Kings College. They have been actively involved with our club during their stay in the UK and it has been a privillge to know them and spend time with them. They have bought passion and enthusiasm to our club with their love of bonsai and we wish them all the best and will keep in touch. Our president Reg Bolton gave a short speech and presented Zelkjo with a life membership scroll and two of his bronzes which he has used as part of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Bonsai exhibition. Zeljko generously donated his mame bonsai collection that he has kept during his stay in the UK to club members so we will have something to remember his time with us and hopefully continue to develop and grow.

Tree of the month
A well attended tree of the month and thank you to Simon for your continued work in organising this activity each month and this months winner was Sally May with her Korean Hornbeam.

Workshop activities
Tonight was a busy one with everyone working on their trees and pruning given the good levels of growth all our trees have put on. Amelia was working on a Chinese Elm which belonged to one of our club members Diane and has continued to develop it in the style of a raft which was Diane’s original intention. Barry was working on a golden Willow and they require quite regular pruning due to exceptionally fast growth rates and he also had one in the tree of the month which he has grown himself. Alan also bought in a tree he is working on carving out and has currently started the process so watch this space for an update this winter when he plans to carve out the trunk to mimic a hollow tree like the fat bellied Oak in Savernake.
