Ficus microcarpa is a great species for bonsai and a firm favourite for indoor use in the UK from a tropical species that copes with being cared for indoors as it needs to warmth.

Fraxinus hupehensis

Fraxinus hupehensis is a species that is not commonly used in the UK as bonsai but Fraxinus excelsior is often seen which is native to the UK. It was also interesting whilst trying to discover more information about Fraxinus hupehensis that one was sold by the well known auction house of Sotherby’s!

In addition to seeing some stunning Shohin and Mame bonsai at the Spirit of Shohin Show at RHS Wisley there were also some creative and colourful accents, amazing bronzes, scrolls and beautiful pots.

Mame @ Spirit of Shohin 2016

This was an excellent collective set of displays of Mame, one of the largest seen in the UK to date, and wonderful to see such extraordinary extra-miniature trees on an impressive tiny scale.

The Shohin displays were excellent, with a harmony and balance, consideration for the aesthetic and high quality trees and display stands. This was a recipe for beautiful and delivered in full at this weekend Spirit of Shohin 2016 held at the RHS gardens at Wisley, Surrey.

Celtis sinensis
