This evening, club members were involved in a practical workshop exploring the penjing 盆景 approach. Chinese for a landscape or scene (jing) in a pot (pen), whereas bonsai displays typically focus on a tree or trees. Penjing displays can include elements other than trees, including rocks, water, or figurines, for example.

There were no set instructions for the workshop besides an initial briefing. A ‘buffet’ of items, such as pots, trees, stone, moss, wood and figurines, was provided for workshoppers to choose from and experiment with. This made for a fun, creative time. Amelia has run this workshop successfully for several other local clubs previously, and it is always exciting to see the permutations of end results people create. Everyone always seems to get a lot out of this process.

I had never seen the club working so quietly.

Two club members displayed their previously created penjing for our competition tree of the month.
