One of the things I remember fondly about our trip to Japan, wasn’t just the big impressive show-worthy bonsai but the domestic bonsai that could be found in any random location by the road or outside the ticket office at a bus station. I was going to describe this as ‘achievable’ bonsai, but in nothing more than admiration;

I don’t think achievable is a concern. The bonsai exhibited the season; the japanese seem strongly in touch with nature and more so with the seasons. Even though they were not considered ‘high-end’ the bonsai were beautifully presented, and were no less remarkable or aesthetically pleasing but fun with no pretence to being anything more.
