Paul Bowerbank Life time member award

Our Chairman, Paul Bowerbank has been awarded a Life Time Member Award at our Annual General Meeting, presented by Sally May. This is to recognise his contribution to Swindon Bonsai Society and bonsai as a whole. He has a passion for bonsai and is always keen to share this with new and existing club members.

Cascade or not to cascade

It was a great opportunity at this years Swindon Winter Image Bonsai Show to see a fantastic array of bonsai styles, shapes and sizes as well as a good diversity of tree species. One style that captured my interest was that of the cascade and semi cascade.

Raffle prizes

A huge thank you to all the traders for their amazing donations to our raffle, we had 25 prizes and that meant a lot of lucky people went home with some great prizes.

Traders @ our Winter Image Show 2016

This year the bonsai traders were again selling a fabulous range of everything bonsai and some of their sales tables were also great exhibits too. Here is a quick look at the traders who attended the show and hopefully everyone bought a little something from one or more of them.

Club member’s trees

The work that is involved in putting on any kind of show is usually quite considerable and this is true of a bonsai show. The Club members and their families who help to support the Swindon Bonsai Club displayed many of their own bonsai trees this year.

Small trees @ our Winter Image Show

Shohin and Mame were represented well at this years Swindon Winter Image Show and not just as displays but as companion trees to larger trees and as part of club displays too. Here are a selection of the tiny trees that caught my attention at the show.

Arihato award

Kit Bowns is pleased to announce that the inaugural Arihato Award went to John Brocklehurst for his wonderful little Celastrus orbicularis (Bittersweet). It was a close thing with several trees worthy of the award but ultimately it came down to the best tree/pot combination.

Public vote @ Swindon Winter Image Show

This year we also had a Public vote for the visitors to our Swindon Winter Image Bonsai show 2016 to vote for their favourite tree. There there were no prizes, but just a bit of fun and to involve everyone in the show. It was a close vote and two trees shared the honour of… Read more »
