Mame @ Spirit of Shohin 2016

This was an excellent collective set of displays of Mame, one of the largest seen in the UK to date, and wonderful to see such extraordinary extra-miniature trees on an impressive tiny scale.

Small trees @ our Winter Image Show

Shohin and Mame were represented well at this years Swindon Winter Image Show and not just as displays but as companion trees to larger trees and as part of club displays too. Here are a selection of the tiny trees that caught my attention at the show.

Shopping for Mame bonsai

Mame is a term used to describe very small bonsai usually less than 10 centimetres or 4 inches in height and generally smaller than shohin. They are very cute due to the smallness of size but do require extra care given the size of pot to avoid drying out.

Mame @ Heathrow Bonsai Show

Even though there were only a few Mame on display and given their small size, they stood out and made an impression particularly the mame display itself on the Eastbourne and Wealdon Bonsai Club display. Here are a few images of the Mame bonsai that were on display.

One great place to buy Shohin and Mame bonsai trees is that of the Hoka-en Bonsai Studio (Lodder Bonsai BV) in Holland and you do can now even buy them online too through their new web shop.
