Paul Bowerbank FoBBS roll of honours

Paul Bowerbank is our Chairman for Swindon and District Bonsai Society and he was given an award and named on the Federation of British Bonsai (FoBBS) Roll of Honours for his dedication to promoting the art of bonsai.

Swindon Winter Image Show 2016

Well, it was another grand bonsai event start to 2016 with the first UK show of the season hosted by Swindon and District Bonsai Society. This year’s show was again a resounding success with over 450 attendees from visitors, traders, clubs and societies, judges, including invited guests and club members.

Casurarina eqiosetifolia (Australian Pine)

Casurarina eqiosetifolia (Australian Pine) is a species that I had not seen before ever as a bonsai and I have yet to see one in the UK either. We came across this species at the BCI convention in China and it certainly made an impression. For details on this species visit: Wigerts Bonsai

Bombax ceiba

Bombax ceiba, 木棉 mu mian are trees that reach around 25 m in height. They are tall with buttressed trunks and usually very spiny on young trees. The bark is tray-white and the branches are spreading. Bougainvillea glabra

The Bougainvillea bonsai on display at the Bonsai Clubs International Convention exhibition where out of this world and something else. They have a very distinct presence with some amazing branch work creating a very unique style and appearance.
