Blackmore Vale Bonsai Group was formed in 2007 so this is their 10th Anniversary year of being a bonsai group. Their main aim is to promote bonsai to anyone interested by way of workshops and monthly meetings. To commemorate 10 years they have hosted a bonsai exhibition for their members to show their bonsai trees to the public. This was held on Sunday 21st May and was very well attended.
Where they meet
They meet at Charlton Village Hall, Charlton, near Shaftesbury, SP7 0PL on the second Friday of each month from 7.30pm until 10pm. They also run Saturday workshops each month from February to October between 11am and 4pm, at Thorngrove Garden Centre in Gillingham.
Join the group
If you are interested in joining the group it is £15 per year and £2 per meeting and this includes refreshments. If you just want to go along as a guest it is £3 for the evening.

Bonsai trader
The exhibition of members bonsai trees was in the Royal British Legion Hall and Collette Harrison from Bonsai Trees Southampton was also there selling a wide range of bonsai trees and supplies.
Members bonsai trees
There was a wide variety of bonsai trees on display from including trees that are still being trained through to trees now in the refinement stages of bonsai. There was a good diversity of styles, species and sizes too. It was fun to see other hobbyists trees and be encouraged that so many people enjoy the hobby and want to continue to develop their trees further by learning new techniques.
Bonsai demonstrations
Tony and Trevor were on hand all day demonstrating wiring and styling on Scots Pines and these are great starter trees to develop further, now that the initial styling has been done.
Accents
Alongside the members bonsai trees were accent plants and some were in very fun pots and were well presented.
Talking bonsai at the show
Congratulations on your 10th anniversary, it was a pleasure to join in the bonsai talk at the show and enjoy all the trees on display.
