Sally & Derek were both awarded the prestigious club merit award this year. This annual award is presented to our club member (or members in this case) for greatest improvement in their trees and generally just getting stuck in with club goings on.
An addtional reward is a workshop with RHS Master Grower John Trott at Mendip Bonsai Studio. Sally had the following to say on the day:
A great workshop with John who advised us on the various trees we took. Derek’s Fig and Siberian Elm were a complete transformation, taking them up a notch in terms of their development as bonsai. Derek learnt a few more techniques along the way. My Acers were thinned out and starting to have a proper shape. John also provided some much needed direction on my Akebia and Japanese Hawthorn. There was lots of help and information about our trees and trees in general. John is extremely knowledgeable. Plus, we had a look around John and his wife Ann’s amazing garden, some fantastic trees, not all for sale. And a look at some unusual and interesting ferns, carnivorous plants and more. Thank you to John & Ann for making us so welcome and Ann for all the refreshments that kept coming. A delightful day.
