Jack Bellinger Competition @Wessex

The winner of the Jack Bellinger Competition between Eastleigh, Solent and Wessex Bonsai went to Solent Bonsai, so congratulations for the winning display.

Heathrow Bonsai Show

Thank you again Mark and MingChen Moreland and all those involved in organising and running the Heathrow Bonsai Show as this was yet another great bonsai show and fun event today. The range of bonsai trees on display was extensive and excellent, with some stunning autumn colour as well as some early winter images.

Flowering Bonsai in May

Wessex Bonsai Society Club Display

Wessex Bonsai Society was established in 1983 and hosted another great exhibition this year in addition to an Open Competition. They put on their own club display too which included some excellent trees and a diverse range of species including a Lilac which was in full flower.

Conifers as Bonsai

Conifers are seed plants all producing woody stems and are widely used as a tree species suitable for bonsai and belong for the most part to the Phylum Coniferophyta and are gymnosperms which belong to the larger Phylum Pinophyta.

Broadleaf Bonsai

Broadleaved trees make for excellent bonsai in the United Kingdom and there is a good selection of native broadleaved trees to choose from including:-

Rock plantings

  Rock plantings are a great way to get to see more of the root systems of bonsai trees as these are often exposed over the rocks allowing the observer to see more than one would usually see of the intricate network of roots of trees.
