This year so far has not produced great growing conditions for some species of tree, whilst others have flourished. In particular Korean Hornbeams have not produced the same level of growth as last year.

Yew trees as bonsai
The genus of Taxus contains eight species of Yew tree and the two most commonly used for bonsai are Taxus baccata (English Yew) and Taxus cuspidata (Japanese Yew).
Bristol Bonsai Show 2012

Bonsai succulents
Some of our club members have a wide range of other hobbies beyond Bonsai. One member in particular had a great weekend at the British Cactus and Succulent Society (Wiltshire Branch) Annual Show in Melksham where he won Best Succulent in Show as well as a range of other classes.

The S. Azalea he was working on had been pruned incorrectly historically; it appeared that it had only been worked on by tip pruning to maintain the overall aesthetic shape.
