A great way to spend a day chatting about bonsai while also perusing the multitude of bonsai sales tables to find some bonsai bargains for all levels of bonsai enthusiasts from beginners through to advanced hobbyists. A big thank you to Tony Oswin and the Staverton Bonsai Group for hosting and organising the event as well as the show sponsors Troll Pots, Spectre Pots and Oakfield Bonsai. It was great to see UK Bonsai Association supporting the show too as well as many well-known traders including Collette’s Bonsai, David Sampson of Fine Japanese Suiseki, Chris Thomas, Daniel Butler of Wood and Clay, Oceana Bonsai, Beechfield Bonsai, Probio Carbon and many more. There were also local and not so local bonsai clubs present and many of their members including some from Swindon including Warminster Bonsai Club, Salisbury Bonsai Society, Surrey Heath Bonsai Society, Middlesex Bonsai Society, Chichester Bonsai society, and Blackmore Vale Bonsai Group.

It was a good day at the Shilton Open Gardens on the 12th June, at least it was dry with the marquee up, visitors came thick and fast as they admired the trees. Also lovely cakes washed down with the odd cuppa. Here are the photos of the day, courtesy of Andy…………..

It was a good bonsai show today with club displays as well as bonsai traders and demonstrations plus refreshments all at the Remembrance Hall, Charlton near Shaftesbury. The main traders were Chris Thomas, Collette, Robert Derrick of Oakfield Bonsai and Trevor. The bonsai club and societies with displays were Blackmore Vale, Staverton, Taunton and Warminster with Chris Thomas judging. The winning club display was Warminster Bonsai Club. Congratulations to everyone who was part of making the show today possible and all the hard work that goes into setting up a show. Also congratulations go to Adrian Taylor from Taunton and Blackmore Vale clubs as he had the Best in Show Bonsai tree with his Hornbeam group, on the Taunton stand. Below are a few images from the day for you to enjoy.

Last week we had a workshop at Lee Verhorevoort Bonsai with Lee and it was superb to get his help and advice on some of our bonsai trees. He is a fantastic resource of knowledge on all things bonsai and was able to help us with our trees and provide us with ways forward on styling, branch placement and pruning techniques to help us develop our trees further. Here are a few images of the trees available for sale at his nursery, for more details on his workshops and bonsai sales contact Lee direct via his website, phone or e-mail.

Tonight the focus was all about accents, and everyone bought in a good selection of accents for discussion and one or two club members made up some accents on the night too. Paul had also bought some spare accent plants for anyone who wanted some to have a go at making their own plus some small pots for sale. He also had some used bonsai pots that had been donated by a previous club member for anyone wanting a bonsai pot or ceramic tray. We had a Cacti and Succulent display from the Chairman, Derek May of the Wiltshire Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society (BCSS) too which was excellent. He was on hand to answer everyone’s questions about cacti and succulents and the forthcoming show this weekend in Melksham.
