Tonight the session was focused on discussing those trees that club members have no idea how to style or were in need of advice on, as everyone has had one of those bonsai trees at some stage in their bonsai hobby. It was a good evening with lots of discussion on a wide variety of species with ideas coming from many club members. The evening started off with a chat from our Chairman Paul who then introduced the topic and the discussion commenced.

What a fantastic bonsai show, bringing together so many amazing people in one location to talk about bonsai, display their own bonsai trees and have the opportunity to buy bonsai supplies. With everything available from the bonsai traders from bonsai trees to tools, soils, fertilisers and so much more. It is such a friendly atmosphere with everyone catching up, and discussing their bonsai trees and techniques as well as their successes and problems following this summer’s extreme temperatures.

A huge thank you goes out to Mark and MingChen Moreland who provide their unwavering support, dedication and enthusiasm for the hobby of bonsai and are instrumental in not only starting the Heathrow Bonsai Show all those years ago but also the UKBA more recently in 2018. Thanks also to all those who made today’s show possible with their time, effort and organisation prior to the show and making sure everything was set up yesterday in anticipation of today as well as helping at the end of the show. A final thank you to all those exhibiting and trading at the show as well as the visitors who came to see what the hobby of bonsai is all about. Follow-up posts for our own Club display plus the other club displays and traders will follow shortly.

There was a general buzz about the hall all day with everyone checking out the latest traders and everything they had to offer for sale. It was great to see so many visitors, as well as exhibitors, walking about proudly with their new purchases, I was one of those too as I found a stunning Oak bonsai tree for sale which I bought as it looks just like a Veteran Oak tree. It was great to see so much variety of a diverse range of items for sale from stunning hand-made bonsai ceramics, to a wide variety of bonsai trees of all stages of development to get you started with the hobby. With beautiful hand-painted scrolls, bronzes, bonsai stands and so much more, it was well worth the visit.

Well I think that it was Wanborough Show today………. not sure cause there was ‘NO’ rain and it usually does. It was good to see the crowds back and everyone enjoying the nice warm sunny weather. The trees in the marquee had a steady flow of admirers, and a lot of them took the cards with details of the ‘Winter Image’ show in 2023. We had enough room to put up a smaller gazebo so we could work on some trees and gave the visitors something to watch and discuss.

This year, instead of a BBQ it was decided to hold a cream tea party, then all the members can sit around and chat. Well we wanted a dry weather day, but we didn’t expect temperatures of 34+ degrees. We had already put up several gazebos in Reg’s garden, so we had plenty of shade, although a better breeze would have been nice. Thank you to those that supplied extra cakes, I would have taken a photo of the scones with lashings of jam and cream on them………..BUT they were eaten so fast I missed it. Here are some pictures of the members enjoying themselves and also some of the garden, Reg had been very busy polishing everything, thanks to him for the use of his lovely garden.

Next year we need to attract a NEW member into the group who has a large swimming pool for our event, in case it is that hot again……..
