Yet another lovely show with quality displays, trees and accents, if you missed it you missed a good one.

Again we were joined by David Jones and his helper for the day, Charlotte Walby for an all day pottery workshop.
John Trott, [https://www.mendipbonsai.co.uk/] Mendip Bonsai Studio followed on from a very busy time of year, a ‘Gold’ Medal at the “Chelsea Flower Show” and then the Bath and West Show and the Cornwall Show. John attended the NEC Birmingham for the Gardeners World Live show 2018 with a lovely display of all Azalea’s except the accent plants. He was voted as the………… Geoff Hamilton Award – Best in Show.
The Wiltshire Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society (BCSS) hosted their annual show this weekend in Melksham and it was a great success. I was fortunate to win the two classes I entered with my Fockea edulis and Plectranthus ernstii and there were so many wonderful and diverse species of cacti and succulent it was great to see. We also have Warminster Bonsai Club who set up a bonsai display plus Parnham Bungalow Plants and other traders. A great day was had by all and a special congratulations to Derek May for all his hard work organising the show, John Foster for judging and everyone at the Wiltshire Branch who supported helped too.
Tonights club night was ferns with Steve Mckee and it was informative, fun and refreshing to hear how Steve collects, propagates and grows his ferns. He was able to provide useful insights into the growing of ferns and use of them as accents. He has been successful with a range of species and enjoys expanding his collection. He tends to treat them in a similar way to bonsai with pruning to aid with leaf size reduction and feeding using tomorite. Not all ferns he has found are hardy to his cost so he is now cautious and provides winter protection for most of his ferns.

On Sunday 3rd June was the 40th Anniversary of Solent Bonsai Society and here are a few images form the day which was held at Wallington Village Hall, Fareham.
This was a fun evening dedicated to accent plants and all things alpine and accent like. It was great to have Parnham Bungalow Plants visiting so we could all buy some great alpines to expand our accent collections.
It was another good bonsai show at Wessex Bonsai Club this year with lots of club displays, a good amount of entires into the show and below are a few images from the day. Congratulations to all those who entered the open classes and also those who were fortunate to be winners of their class.
