In 1977 a group of Bonsai enthusiasts, led by Ken Moncrief and Frank Maddocks, decided to meet to share their enjoyment of Bonsai and this has continued and expanded to involve many more since them. It is a friendly club with a good range of club members of all levels of experience in bonsai as a hobby. They hold their meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 7.30pm at The Coleview Community Centre, Towcester Road, Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, SN3 4AS. Their next show is on the 25th February 2018 which is the Swindon Winter Image Show. Below are the images of their club members trees who put on a bonsai display at the 8th Heathrow Bonsai show.
What another great Heathrow bonsai show, the 8th one and all credit to everyone who was involved in the show right from the initial preparation through to end result. There was a buzz from the outset with car parks over flowing with traders and exhibitors just before 8am and the high levels of activity continued throughout with over 450 visitors. The atmosphere was fun and friendly with bonsai talk on going in everywhere.
If you are looking for any opportunity to show your bonsai trees, then look no further as an event is being planned for 2018 purely for this purpose. If you are interested contact Steve Hale who is a member of The Splinter Group as well as Middlesex Bonsai Society. He is currently selecting trees for a new venture next year, ExpoBonsai 2018, which will take place on April 8th in the West London area.
Don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets for the special pot made by Stone Monkey as the draw will take place on the day of the show and this is for a very worthwhile cause. Get them either via the Stone Monkey web site, via Andy or early at the show………
Dianne’s interest in bonsai started in 1977 when she started with some small trees and planting seeds. She started by planting a Zelkova Elm seed and the tree is still alive today which is great going some 40 years later so she is fairly competent with bonsai. She joined Swindon Bonsai club in 2013 and her first ever bonsai tree and the one she will always remember is a double pink and white flowering peach tree but it sadly got peach leaf curl and died.
This Saturday we were fortunate to have a whole day with Chris Thomas at a workshop at Swindon. It was well attended by club members who brought in a whole range of their bonsai trees for help and advice from Chris.
