Everything and anything bonsai-related was available for sale at the Heathrow show, and a vast diversity of bonsai traders were present selling bonsai trees of all types from yamadori and starter trees through to well-developed bonsai. There were also bonsai stands, tools, equipment, pots, bronzes, soils, fertilisers and treatments, scrolls, tags and so much more.

This year we had a club display at the Heathrow Show and thanks to Paul, Terry and Paul for preparing and setting up the Swindon Club display which looked very good.

Lee ran another workshop with us this weekend. Let us just say there was a lot of pruning going on. Lee always works at an impressive rate and everyone gets a lot out of these workshops.

This evening we held a problem trees and critique evening. Members were invited to bring in material they have but are unsure in what direction to take it.

Saturday the 2nd September saw the club members summer social at Reg’s house and garden. About 26 of the members were able to attend and the weather was lovely, so we could enjoy the garden and Reg’s trees.

Today we took the club marquee to the Annual Wanborough Country Show. The original idea of the marquee was to allow all members of the club no matter what their ability or stage their tree is in to display something for the visitors to admire. There was a good mixture of species and many questions from the public were answered. Most of the photographs were taken just after everything had been set up and before the show was open, so a chance to sit down, recover and have breakfast. We had enough space to put up an smaller gazebo and do a workshop as well as store some of our kit.
