This is a fabulous time of year as it is the time when your deciduous trees start to push leaves and all trees start to increase their productivity after winter dormancy.
Prior to the full onset of Spring repotting should have taken place to root prune the trees and check the composition of the soil plus look for soil pests and replace

The Japanese Persimmon is another great Mame bonsai as it packs a punch in a small form with bright orange fruits. It originates from China and is also called the Kaki Persimmon and Asian Persimmon.
Apples make great bonsai subject to which species you select and one recommended would be Malus x Zumi which is a cross between Malus baccata var mandshurica and Malus sieboldii.
If you are looking for a superb tropical bonsai to keep indoors in the UK you cannot go far wrong with a Ficus, they are great and provide all year round interest and green in the home. They are also commonly used on Office environments to bring the outside inside and provide a pleasant and aesthetic image. There are many species to choose from and each provides a different characteristic to admire, and the most common are Ficus benjamina (Weeping fig), Ficus retusa (Taiwan or Ginseng Fig) and Ficus microcarpa (Banyan Fig).

Date for your diary is the 15th and 16th March 2014 where Sutton Bonsai Society presents a mix of plant sales, displays and care information for beginners through to experts at Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Wisley.
The Sutton Bonsai Club is also offering a re-potting and styling service (from £5 per tree). Bring your bonsai trees to the houseplant section of The Plant Centre by 11am on either 15 or 16 March to use this service, or to ask for advice.
Please note you will not be allowed to take your bonsai trees into the garden, so please return them to your car before going into the garden.
