Date for your diary is the 15th and 16th March 2014 where Sutton Bonsai Society presents a mix of plant sales, displays and care information for beginners through to experts at Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Wisley.

The Sutton Bonsai Club is also offering a re-potting and styling service (from £5 per tree). Bring your bonsai trees to the houseplant section of The Plant Centre by 11am on either 15 or 16 March to use this service, or to ask for advice.

Please note you will not be allowed to take your bonsai trees into the garden, so please return them to your car before going into the garden.

For anybody that wants to visit Lodder BV this is a very good opportunity for a great show and lots of bargains. This year the ‘Lodder’s open days’ will be the weekend of 8th and 9th of March. There will be many stands of Japanese arts and crafts, Sushi lovers will get their money’s worth. On Saturday there will also be performances from the Kung Fu Academy, traditionally they bring a spectacular dragon dance.

Pyrus pyrifolia 'Nashi'

This one is new for 2014, I have not seen a Pyrus pyrifolia before which is commonly called ‘Nashi’ or the Asian Pear as well as Korean pear, Chinese pear, Japanese pear, Apple pear and Sand pear. The flowers are a symbol of early spring and the tree is commonly found across Asia. The fruits are edible and used for jam making, juices as well as consumed raw.
