The work that is involved in putting on any kind of show is usually quite considerable and this is true of a bonsai show. The Club members and their families who help to support the Swindon Bonsai Club displayed many of their own bonsai trees this year.
Shohin bonsai are a size of bonsai which are around 20 cm or 8 inches in height and are larger than mame. They are a very popular size of bonsai more recently and easy to transport and usually displayed as part of a set of trees as opposed to as individuals. The overall actual dimensions can vary but generally it relates to trees that look balanced in shape and size for the style and generally small.
For those who wish to purchase raffle tickets but cannot attend any of the shows then please contact Andy by email on stonemonkeyceramics@icloud.com and he will send you details on how to pay via PayPal and then allocate you your tickets. Many thanks for all your support.

Shohin and Mame were represented well at this years Swindon Winter Image Show and not just as displays but as companion trees to larger trees and as part of club displays too. Here are a selection of the tiny trees that caught my attention at the show.
Kit Bowns is pleased to announce that the inaugural Arihato Award went to John Brocklehurst for his wonderful little Celastrus orbicularis (Bittersweet). It was a close thing with several trees worthy of the award but ultimately it came down to the best tree/pot combination.
Thank you to all the visiting Clubs and Societies who attended the 2016 Swindon Winter Image Show, here are some of the overall club displays and more pictures will follow in future posts of the individual trees from the displays.
This year we also had a Public vote for the visitors to our Swindon Winter Image Bonsai show 2016 to vote for their favourite tree. There there were no prizes, but just a bit of fun and to involve everyone in the show. It was a close vote and two trees shared the honour of the accolade with the same number of votes cast.
It is with great sadness that I write a tribute to Sandra Knight who sadly passed away last week. Sandra was a very big part of the Warminster bonsai club, not only did she support her husband Clive with his bonsai trees, she was a keen bonsai enthusiast herself and had many lovely trees which she was very proud of.
Paul Bowerbank is our Chairman for Swindon and District Bonsai Society and he was given an award and named on the Federation of British Bonsai (FoBBS) Roll of Honours for his dedication to promoting the art of bonsai.
